PDF Generation Broken

Around the 23rd of August, Windows (Edge browser) and Chrome (browser) deployed a new version. This version has an issue where previously working functionality to generate PDF files is now broken.

Unfortunately, there is no way to remove or block this update for most retailers, so most Fieldpine sites are going to be impacted by this issue. The issue is already impacting many other sites beyond Fieldpine

The only solution is for Fieldpine code to select an older method of creating PDFs. We can only select the "old" method using something that was added to the browser in the last couple of years. (so we need new browser code to select old functionality) All this requires a Fieldpine code update however. So all sites that generate PDF files will need to update. This includes all sites that have older Fieldpine versions, going back around 4 years.

To workaround the issue, you will need Fieldpine Gds 313 or higher. This code will generally available around 27 Aug 11AM (NZT).

The update should only require your head office Gds servers to update, PosGreen on the counter should be rarely impacted. Posgreen does call to generate PDF files but recent versions handed PDF generation off to the server.

Whats impacted?

• Emailed receipts
• Emailed purchase orders
• Statements - for sites using newer techniques, not all will be affected
• Anything else that relies on server side PDF generation

Can I just wait for a Browser fix?
You can, the engineering teams have not accepted the issue yet (thats not uncommon), but a "quick" fix is likely to be days/weeks, not hours.

Clearly Fieldpine do not appreciate being forced to mass update retailers at short notice, so are looking at alternative options, but it is complex.
